Children and families can develop their literacy skills through storytelling, music, art, and games at Prairie Public’s annual Share A Story Family Literacy Event.
Nature Cat from the hit PBS KIDS television series will greet children and pose for photos.
The free family event is at downtown Fargo’s Broadway Square on Thursday, August 10, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The event will include storytellers, music, games, prizes, and every child can choose a free book to take home.
Performers include musician Bill Thomas and storyteller Michael Gallo. Christy Goulet will sing Ojibwe and Lakota songs and lead a circle dance.
Community partners that will provide other activities include the Fargo Fire Department, the Fargo Public Library, the Moorhead Public Library, the Little Red Reading Bus, the North Dakota Autism Center and Altrusa International.
“Share A Story has been on hiatus since the 2020 pandemic,” said Callista Martinez, Prairie Public’s community engagement coordinator. “We’re so pleased to bring it back this year! The focus of the event is literacy and the importance of reading to children at a young age. The day is committed to make reading as fun and exciting as possible, while encouraging parents to become involved in their children’s educational development.”
Financial support for the event is provided by American Crystal Sugar Company.
