About Cook & Create Kits

Prairie Public’s Cook & Create Kits celebrate the stories and flavors of local foods, farms, and family traditions. We invite families to enjoy cooking and creating together—many ingredients inside were made in Minnesota!

Each kit is free to check-out and includes a children's book, a recipe, locally-sourced ingredients, cooking utensils, and an activity packet. Kits can be found at select Minnesota libraries.

Bison and Sustainability

Learn about bison ranching through the eyes on Dale Rengstorf, owner of Rolling R Ranch. Rengstorf discusses the historical roots of bison in his home of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, and explains how raising this native animal compares to the non-natives he has raised in the past. Students explore how place impacts land use, and how sustainability might combine with successful ranching.
