IRA DISTRIBUTION

Make a Tax-Wise Gift from Your IRA

If you're age 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Prairie Public — and make a lasting impact on the programs you value most.

Benefits of an IRA Charitable Distribution:

  • Avoid income taxes on up to $105,000 per year in IRA transfers to Prairie Public
  • Satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you're 73 or older
  • Lower your taxable income — even if you don’t itemize deductions
  • North Dakota residents: Gifts of $5,000+ to Prairie Public’s endowment fund may qualify for a 40% ND state income tax credit

A gift made directly from your IRA will never count as income — but it always makes a difference!

How to Give

Contact your IRA plan administrator and request a qualified charitable distribution be made directly to:

Prairie Public Broadcasting
207 N 5th Street
Fargo, ND 58102
Federal Tax ID: 45-0276899

Please note: If you receive the distribution first and then donate the funds, it will not count as a QCD. We recommend consulting your financial or tax advisor to ensure your gift meets all requirements.

Other options for donating retirement assets

Part of an estate plan: There can be significant tax advantages to donating retirement assets to Prairie Public as part of an estate plan. When done properly, charitable donations of retirement assets can minimize the amount of income taxes imposed on both your individual heirs and your estate.
